Timothy 4
NIV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New International VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.1But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,
Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.2by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron,
They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth.3men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.
For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,4For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude;
because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.5for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer.
If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed.6In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following.
Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.7But have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness;
For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.8for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.
This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance.9It is a trustworthy statement deserving full acceptance.
That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.10For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of believers.
Command and teach these things.11Prescribe and teach these things.
Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.12Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.
Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.13Until I come, give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching.
Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.14Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery.
Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress.15Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all.
Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.16Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.
