For the director of music. According to gittith. Of Asaph. Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob!1For the choirmaster. According to Gittith. Of Asaph. Sing for joy to God our strength; make a joyful noise to the God of Jacob.
Begin the music, strike the timbrel, play the melodious harp and lyre.2Lift up a song, strike the tambourine, play the sweet-sounding harp and lyre.
Sound the ram's horn at the New Moon, and when the moon is full, on the day of our festival;3Sound the ram’s horn at the New Moon, and at the full moon on the day of our Feast.
this is a decree for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.4For this is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.
When God went out against Egypt, he established it as a statute for Joseph. I heard an unknown voice say:5He ordained it as a testimony for Joseph when he went out over the land of Egypt, where I heard an unfamiliar language:
"I removed the burden from their shoulders; their hands were set free from the basket.6“I relieved his shoulder of the burden; his hands were freed from the basket.
In your distress you called and I rescued you, I answered you out of a thundercloud; I tested you at the waters of Meribah.7You called out in distress, and I rescued you; I answered you from the cloud of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah
Hear me, my people, and I will warn you-- if you would only listen to me, Israel!8Hear, O My people, and I will warn you: O Israel, if only you would listen to Me!
You shall have no foreign god among you; you shall not worship any god other than me.9There must be no strange god among you, nor shall you bow to a foreign god.
I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.10I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth, and I will fill it.
"But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me.11But My people would not listen to Me, and Israel would not obey Me.
So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.12So I gave them up to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.
"If my people would only listen to me, if Israel would only follow my ways,13If only My people would listen to Me, if Israel would follow My ways,
how quickly I would subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes!14how soon I would subdue their enemies and turn My hand against their foes!
Those who hate the LORD would cringe before him, and their punishment would last forever.15Those who hate the LORD would feign obedience, and their doom would last forever.
But you would be fed with the finest of wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you."16But I would feed you the finest wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
