A psalm of David. I call to you, LORD, come quickly to me; hear me when I call to you. | 1A Psalm of David. I call upon You, O LORD; come quickly to me. Hear my voice when I call to You. |
May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice. | 2May my prayer be set before You like incense, my uplifted hands like the evening offering. |
Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips. | 3Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips. |
Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat their delicacies. | 4Do not let my heart be drawn to any evil thing or take part in works of wickedness with men who do iniquity; let me not feast on their delicacies. |
Let a righteous man strike me--that is a kindness; let him rebuke me--that is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it, for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers. | 5Let the righteous man strike me; let his rebuke be an act of loving devotion. It is oil for my head; let me not refuse it. For my prayer is ever against the deeds of the wicked. |
Their rulers will be thrown down from the cliffs, and the wicked will learn that my words were well spoken. | 6When their rulers are thrown down from the cliffs, the people will listen to my words, for they are pleasant. |
They will say, "As one plows and breaks up the earth, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of the grave." | 7As when one plows and breaks up the soil, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of Sheol. |
But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign LORD; in you I take refuge--do not give me over to death. | 8But my eyes are fixed on You, O GOD the Lord. In You I seek refuge; do not leave my soul defenseless. |
Keep me safe from the traps set by evildoers, from the snares they have laid for me. | 9Keep me from the snares they have laid for me, and from the lures of evildoers. |
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety. | 10Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety. |
