NET Bible | New Living Translation |
A song of ascents. "Since my youth they have often attacked me," let Israel say. | 1From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me. Let all Israel repeat this: |
"Since my youth they have often attacked me, but they have not defeated me. | 2From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me, but they have never defeated me. |
The plowers plowed my back; they made their furrows long. | 3My back is covered with cuts, as if a farmer had plowed long furrows. |
The LORD is just; he cut the ropes of the wicked." | 4But the LORD is good; he has cut me free from the ropes of the ungodly. |
May all who hate Zion be humiliated and turned back! | 5May all who hate Jerusalem be turned back in shameful defeat. |
May they be like the grass on the rooftops which withers before one can even pull it up, | 6May they be as useless as grass on a rooftop, turning yellow when only half grown, |
which cannot fill the reaper's hand, or the lap of the one who gathers the grain! | 7ignored by the harvester, despised by the binder. |
Those who pass by will not say, "May you experience the LORD's blessing! We pronounce a blessing on you in the name of the LORD." | 8And may those who pass by refuse to give them this blessing: “The LORD bless you; we bless you in the LORD’s name.” |
