Job 17

My spirit is broken, my days have faded out, the grave awaits me. 1My spirit is broken. My days are extinguished. A graveyard awaits me.
Surely mockery is with me; my eyes must dwell on their hostility. 2Surely mockers surround me and my eyes must gaze at their rebellion.
Make then my pledge with you. Who else will put up security for me? 3Make arrangements! Put up security for me. Who else will be my sponsor?
Because you have closed their minds to understanding, therefore you will not exalt them. 4You have closed their minds to understanding, therefore You will not honor them.
If a man denounces his friends for personal gain, the eyes of his children will fail. 5If a man informs on his friends for a price, the eyes of his children will fail.
He has made me a byword to people, I am the one in whose face they spit. 6He has made me an object of scorn to the people; I have become a man people spit at.
My eyes have grown dim with grief; my whole frame is but a shadow. 7My eyes have grown dim from grief, and my whole body has become but a shadow.
Upright men are appalled at this; the innocent man is troubled with the godless. 8The upright are appalled at this, and the innocent are roused against the godless.
But the righteous man holds to his way, and the one with clean hands grows stronger. 9Yet the righteous person will hold to his way, and the one whose hands are clean will grow stronger.
"But turn, all of you, and come now! I will not find a wise man among you. 10But come back and try again, all of you. I will not find a wise man among you.
My days have passed, my plans are shattered, even the desires of my heart. 11My days have slipped by; my plans have been ruined, even the things dear to my heart.
These men change night into day; they say, 'The light is near in the face of darkness.' 12They turned night into day and made light seem near in the face of darkness.
If I hope for the grave to be my home, if I spread out my bed in darkness, 13If I await Sheol as my home, spread out my bed in darkness,
If I cry to corruption, 'You are my father,' and to the worm, 'My Mother,' or 'My sister,' 14and say to corruption: You are my father, and to the maggot: My mother or my sister,
where then is my hope? And my hope, who sees it? 15where then is my hope? Who can see any hope for me?
Will it go down to the barred gates of death? Will we descend together into the dust?" 16Will it go down to the gates of Sheol, or will we descend together to the dust?
