NET Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleEnglish Standard Version
Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the stomach of the fish1Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish,
and said, "I called out to the LORD from my distress, and he answered me; from the belly of Sheol I cried out for help, and you heard my prayer. 2saying, “I called out to the LORD, out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice.
You threw me into the deep waters, into the middle of the sea; the ocean current engulfed me; all the mighty waves you sent swept over me. 3For you cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me; all your waves and your billows passed over me.
I thought I had been banished from your sight, that I would never again see your holy temple! 4Then I said, ‘I am driven away from your sight; yet I shall again look upon your holy temple.’
Water engulfed me up to my neck; the deep ocean surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. 5The waters closed in over me to take my life; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped about my head
I went down to the very bottoms of the mountains; the gates of the netherworld barred me in forever; but you brought me up from the Pit, O LORD, my God. 6at the roots of the mountains. I went down to the land whose bars closed upon me forever; yet you brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God.
When my life was ebbing away, I called out to the LORD, and my prayer came to your holy temple. 7When my life was fainting away, I remembered the LORD, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple.
Those who worship worthless idols forfeit the mercy that could be theirs. 8Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their hope of steadfast love.
But as for me, I promise to offer a sacrifice to you with a public declaration of praise; I will surely do what I have promised. Salvation belongs to the LORD!" 9But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Salvation belongs to the LORD!”
Then the LORD commanded the fish and it disgorged Jonah on dry land. 10And the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out upon the dry land.
