King Hiram of Tyre sent messengers to David, along with cedar logs, stonemasons, and carpenters to build a palace for him.1King Hiram of Tyre sent envoys to David, along with cedar logs, stonemasons, and carpenters to build a palace for him.
David realized that the LORD had established him as king over Israel and that he had elevated his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel. 2Then David knew that the LORD had established him as king over Israel and that his kingdom had been exalted for the sake of his people Israel.
In Jerusalem David married more wives and fathered more sons and daughters.3David took more wives in Jerusalem, and he became the father of more sons and daughters.

When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king of all Israel, all the Philistines marched up to confront him. When David heard about it, he marched out against them.8When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they all went in search of David; when David heard of this, he went out to face them.
Now the Philistines had come and raided the Valley of Rephaim.9Now the Philistines had come and raided in the Valley of Rephaim,
David asked God, "Should I march up against the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?" The LORD said to him, "March up! I will hand them over to you!"10so David inquired of God, "Should I attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?" The LORD replied, "Attack, and I will hand them over to you."
So they marched against Baal Perazim and David defeated them there. David said, "Using me as his instrument, God has burst out against my enemies like water bursts out." So that place is called Baal Perazim.11So the Israelites went up to Baal-perazim, and David defeated the Philistines there. Then David said, "Like a bursting flood, God has used me to burst out against my enemies." Therefore, they named that place The Lord Bursts Out.
The Philistines left their idols there, so David ordered that they be burned. 12The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David ordered that they be burned in the fire.
The Philistines again raided the valley.13Once again the Philistines raided in the valley.
So David again asked God what he should do. This time God told him, "Don't march up after them; circle around them and come against them in front of the trees.14So David again inquired of God, and God answered him, "Do not pursue them directly. Circle around them and attack them opposite the balsam trees.
When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the trees, then attack. For at that moment the LORD is going before you to strike down the army of the Philistines."15When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then go out to battle, for God will have gone out ahead of you to strike down the army of the Philistines."
David did just as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer. 16So David did as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.
So David became famous in all the lands; the LORD caused all the nations to fear him. 17Then David's fame spread throughout the lands, and the LORD caused all the nations to be terrified of him.
