Job 5
NASB Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995English Standard Version
"Call now, is there anyone who will answer you? And to which of the holy ones will you turn?1“Call now; is there anyone who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn?
"For anger slays the foolish man, And jealousy kills the simple.2Surely vexation kills the fool, and jealousy slays the simple.
"I have seen the foolish taking root, And I cursed his abode immediately.3I have seen the fool taking root, but suddenly I cursed his dwelling.
"His sons are far from safety, They are even oppressed in the gate, And there is no deliverer.4His children are far from safety; they are crushed in the gate, and there is no one to deliver them.
"His harvest the hungry devour And take it to a place of thorns, And the schemer is eager for their wealth.5The hungry eat his harvest, and he takes it even out of thorns, and the thirsty pant after his wealth.
"For affliction does not come from the dust, Nor does trouble sprout from the ground,6For affliction does not come from the dust, nor does trouble sprout from the ground,
For man is born for trouble, As sparks fly upward.7but man is born to trouble as the sparks fly upward.
"But as for me, I would seek God, And I would place my cause before God;8“As for me, I would seek God, and to God would I commit my cause,
Who does great and unsearchable things, Wonders without number.9who does great things and unsearchable, marvelous things without number:
"He gives rain on the earth And sends water on the fields,10he gives rain on the earth and sends waters on the fields;
So that He sets on high those who are lowly, And those who mourn are lifted to safety.11he sets on high those who are lowly, and those who mourn are lifted to safety.
"He frustrates the plotting of the shrewd, So that their hands cannot attain success.12He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands achieve no success.
"He captures the wise by their own shrewdness, And the advice of the cunning is quickly thwarted.13He catches the wise in their own craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are brought to a quick end.
"By day they meet with darkness, And grope at noon as in the night.14They meet with darkness in the daytime and grope at noonday as in the night.
"But He saves from the sword of their mouth, And the poor from the hand of the mighty.15But he saves the needy from the sword of their mouth and from the hand of the mighty.
"So the helpless has hope, And unrighteousness must shut its mouth.16So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts her mouth.
"Behold, how happy is the man whom God reproves, So do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.17“Behold, blessed is the one whom God reproves; therefore despise not the discipline of the Almighty.
"For He inflicts pain, and gives relief; He wounds, and His hands also heal.18For he wounds, but he binds up; he shatters, but his hands heal.
"From six troubles He will deliver you, Even in seven evil will not touch you.19He will deliver you from six troubles; in seven no evil shall touch you.
"In famine He will redeem you from death, And in war from the power of the sword.20In famine he will redeem you from death, and in war from the power of the sword.
"You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, And you will not be afraid of violence when it comes.21You shall be hidden from the lash of the tongue, and shall not fear destruction when it comes.
"You will laugh at violence and famine, And you will not be afraid of wild beasts.22At destruction and famine you shall laugh, and shall not fear the beasts of the earth.
"For you will be in league with the stones of the field, And the beasts of the field will be at peace with you.23For you shall be in league with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with you.
"You will know that your tent is secure, For you will visit your abode and fear no loss.24You shall know that your tent is at peace, and you shall inspect your fold and miss nothing.
"You will know also that your descendants will be many, And your offspring as the grass of the earth.25You shall know also that your offspring shall be many, and your descendants as the grass of the earth.
"You will come to the grave in full vigor, Like the stacking of grain in its season.26You shall come to your grave in ripe old age, like a sheaf gathered up in its season.
"Behold this; we have investigated it, and so it is. Hear it, and know for yourself."27Behold, this we have searched out; it is true. Hear, and know it for your good.”
