Job 17
NASB Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995English Standard Version
"My spirit is broken, my days are extinguished, The grave is ready for me.1“My spirit is broken; my days are extinct; the graveyard is ready for me.
"Surely mockers are with me, And my eye gazes on their provocation.2Surely there are mockers about me, and my eye dwells on their provocation.
"Lay down, now, a pledge for me with Yourself; Who is there that will be my guarantor?3“Lay down a pledge for me with you; who is there who will put up security for me?
"For You have kept their heart from understanding, Therefore You will not exalt them.4Since you have closed their hearts to understanding, therefore you will not let them triumph.
"He who informs against friends for a share of the spoil, The eyes of his children also will languish.5He who informs against his friends to get a share of their property— the eyes of his children will fail.
"But He has made me a byword of the people, And I am one at whom men spit.6“He has made me a byword of the peoples, and I am one before whom men spit.
"My eye has also grown dim because of grief, And all my members are as a shadow.7My eye has grown dim from vexation, and all my members are like a shadow.
"The upright will be appalled at this, And the innocent will stir up himself against the godless.8The upright are appalled at this, and the innocent stirs himself up against the godless.
"Nevertheless the righteous will hold to his way, And he who has clean hands will grow stronger and stronger.9Yet the righteous holds to his way, and he who has clean hands grows stronger and stronger.
"But come again all of you now, For I do not find a wise man among you.10But you, come on again, all of you, and I shall not find a wise man among you.
"My days are past, my plans are torn apart, Even the wishes of my heart.11My days are past; my plans are broken off, the desires of my heart.
"They make night into day, saying, 'The light is near,' in the presence of darkness.12They make night into day: ‘The light,’ they say, ‘is near to the darkness.’
"If I look for Sheol as my home, I make my bed in the darkness;13If I hope for Sheol as my house, if I make my bed in darkness,
If I call to the pit, 'You are my father'; To the worm, 'my mother and my sister';14if I say to the pit, ‘You are my father,’ and to the worm, ‘My mother,’ or ‘My sister,’
Where now is my hope? And who regards my hope?15where then is my hope? Who will see my hope?
"Will it go down with me to Sheol? Shall we together go down into the dust?"16Will it go down to the bars of Sheol? Shall we descend together into the dust?”
