Psalm 81
KJV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
King James BibleNew Living Translation
To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of Asaph. Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.1Sing praises to God, our strength. Sing to the God of Jacob.
Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.2Sing! Beat the tambourine. Play the sweet lyre and the harp.
Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.3Blow the ram’s horn at new moon, and again at full moon to call a festival!
For this was a statute for Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob.4For this is required by the decrees of Israel; it is a regulation of the God of Jacob.
This he ordained in Joseph for a testimony, when he went out through the land of Egypt: where I heard a language that I understood not.5He made it a law for Israel when he attacked Egypt to set us free. I heard an unknown voice say,
I removed his shoulder from the burden: his hands were delivered from the pots.6“Now I will take the load from your shoulders; I will free your hands from their heavy tasks.
Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.7You cried to me in trouble, and I saved you; I answered out of the thundercloud and tested your faith when there was no water at Meribah. Interlude
Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken unto me;8“Listen to me, O my people, while I give you stern warnings. O Israel, if you would only listen to me!
There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god.9You must never have a foreign god; you must not bow down before a false god.
I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.10For it was I, the LORD your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it with good things.
But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.11“But no, my people wouldn’t listen. Israel did not want me around.
So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own counsels.12So I let them follow their own stubborn desires, living according to their own ideas.
Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways!13Oh, that my people would listen to me! Oh, that Israel would follow me, walking in my paths!
I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries.14How quickly I would then subdue their enemies! How soon my hands would be upon their foes!
The haters of the LORD should have submitted themselves unto him: but their time should have endured for ever.15Those who hate the LORD would cringe before him; they would be doomed forever.
He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.16But I would feed you with the finest wheat. I would satisfy you with wild honey from the rock.”
