A Psalm of Asaph. God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods. | 1A psalm of Asaph. God stands in the assembly of El; in the midst of the gods he renders judgment. |
How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah. | 2He says, "How long will you make unjust legal decisions and show favoritism to the wicked? (Selah) |
Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. | 3Defend the cause of the poor and the fatherless! Vindicate the oppressed and suffering! |
Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked. | 4Rescue the poor and needy! Deliver them from the power of the wicked! |
They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course. | 5They neither know nor understand. They stumble around in the dark, while all the foundations of the earth crumble. |
I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. | 6I thought, 'You are gods; all of you are sons of the Most High.' |
But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes. | 7Yet you will die like mortals; you will fall like all the other rulers." |
Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations. | 8Rise up, O God, and execute judgment on the earth! For you own all the nations. |
