To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy. | 1For the choir director. A Psalm of David. Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint; Preserve my life from dread of the enemy. |
Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity: | 2Hide me from the secret counsel of evildoers, From the tumult of those who do iniquity, |
Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words: | 3Who have sharpened their tongue like a sword. They aimed bitter speech as their arrow, |
That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not. | 4To shoot from concealment at the blameless; Suddenly they shoot at him, and do not fear. |
They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them? | 5They hold fast to themselves an evil purpose; They talk of laying snares secretly; They say, "Who can see them?" |
They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep. | 6They devise injustices, saying, "We are ready with a well-conceived plot"; For the inward thought and the heart of a man are deep. |
But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded. | 7But God will shoot at them with an arrow; Suddenly they will be wounded. |
So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away. | 8So they will make him stumble; Their own tongue is against them; All who see them will shake the head. |
And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing. | 9Then all men will fear, And they will declare the work of God, And will consider what He has done. |
The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory. | 10The righteous man will be glad in the LORD and will take refuge in Him; And all the upright in heart will glory. |
