King James Bible | English Standard Version |
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy. | 1Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint; preserve my life from dread of the enemy. |
Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity: | 2Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked, from the throng of evildoers, |
Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words: | 3who whet their tongues like swords, who aim bitter words like arrows, |
That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not. | 4shooting from ambush at the blameless, shooting at him suddenly and without fear. |
They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them? | 5They hold fast to their evil purpose; they talk of laying snares secretly, thinking, “Who can see them?” |
They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep. | 6They search out injustice, saying, “We have accomplished a diligent search.” For the inward mind and heart of a man are deep. |
But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded. | 7But God shoots his arrow at them; they are wounded suddenly. |
So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away. | 8They are brought to ruin, with their own tongues turned against them; all who see them will wag their heads. |
And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing. | 9Then all mankind fears; they tell what God has brought about and ponder what he has done. |
The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory. | 10Let the righteous one rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in him! Let all the upright in heart exult! |
