A Psalm of David. LORD, I cry unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee. | 1A Davidic psalm. LORD, I call on You; hurry to help me. Listen to my voice when I call on You. |
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. | 2May my prayer be set before You as incense, the raising of my hands as the evening offering. |
Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. | 3 LORD, set up a guard for my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips. |
Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties. | 4Do not let my heart turn to any evil thing or perform wicked acts with men who commit sin. Do not let me feast on their delicacies. |
Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities. | 5Let the righteous one strike me-- it is an act of faithful love; let him rebuke me-- it is oil for my head; let me not refuse it. Even now my prayer is against the evil acts of the wicked. |
When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet. | 6When their rulers will be thrown off the sides of a cliff, the people will listen to my words, for they are pleasing. |
Our bones are scattered at the grave's mouth, as when one cutteth and cleaveth wood upon the earth. | 7As when one plows and breaks up the soil, turning up rocks, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of Sheol. |
But mine eyes are unto thee, O GOD the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute. | 8But my eyes look to You, Lord GOD. I seek refuge in You; do not let me die. |
Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity. | 9Protect me from the trap they have set for me, and from the snares of evildoers. |
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, whilst that I withal escape. | 10Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by safely. |
