Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, | 1The word of the LORD came to me: |
Son of man, set thy face against mount Seir, and prophesy against it, | 2"Son of man, face Mount Seir and prophesy against it. |
And say unto it, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O mount Seir, I am against thee, and I will stretch out mine hand against thee, and I will make thee most desolate. | 3Say to it, 'This is what the Lord GOD says: Look! I am against you, Mount Seir. I will stretch out my hand against you and make you a desolate waste. |
I will lay thy cities waste, and thou shalt be desolate, and thou shalt know that I am the LORD. | 4I will turn your cities into ruins, and you will become a desolation. Then you will know that I am the LORD. |
Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end: | 5"'Because you maintained a perpetual hatred and gave the Israelites over to the power of the sword in the time of their disaster, the time of final punishment, |
Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee: sith thou hast not hated blood, even blood shall pursue thee. | 6therefore, as I live--this is the declaration of the Lord GOD--I will destine you for bloodshed, and it will pursue you. Since you did not hate bloodshed, it will pursue you. |
Thus will I make mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it him that passeth out and him that returneth. | 7I will make Mount Seir a desolate waste and will cut off from it those who come and go. |
And I will fill his mountains with his slain men: in thy hills, and in thy valleys, and in all thy rivers, shall they fall that are slain with the sword. | 8I will fill its mountains with the slain; those slain by the sword will fall on your hills, in your valleys, and in all your ravines. |
I will make thee perpetual desolations, and thy cities shall not return: and ye shall know that I am the LORD. | 9I will make you a perpetual desolation; your cities will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the LORD. |
Because thou hast said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas the LORD was there: | 10"'Because you said, "These two nations and two lands will be mine, and we will possess them"--though the LORD was there-- |
Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will even do according to thine anger, and according to thine envy which thou hast used out of thy hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I have judged thee. | 11therefore, as I live--this is the declaration of the Lord GOD--I will treat you according to the anger and jealousy you showed in your hatred of them. I will make myself known among them when I judge you. |
And thou shalt know that I am the LORD, and that I have heard all thy blasphemies which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given us to consume. | 12Then you will know that I, the LORD, have heard all the blasphemies you uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying, "They are desolate. They have been given to us to devour!" |
Thus with your mouth ye have boasted against me, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard them. | 13You boasted against me with your mouth, and spoke many words against me. I heard it myself! |
Thus saith the Lord GOD; When the whole earth rejoiceth, I will make thee desolate. | 14"'This is what the Lord GOD says: While the whole world rejoices, I will make you a desolation. |
As thou didst rejoice at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do unto thee: thou shalt be desolate, O mount Seir, and all Idumea, even all of it: and they shall know that I am the LORD. | 15Just as you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel because it became a desolation, I will deal the same way with you: you will become a desolation, Mount Seir, and so will all Edom in its entirety. Then they will know that I am the LORD.' |
