Peter 5
ISV Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
International Standard VersionNew International Version
Therefore, as a fellow elder, a witness of the Messiah's sufferings, and one who shares in the glory to be revealed, I appeal to the elders among you: 1To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ's sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed:
Be shepherds of God's flock that is among you, watching over it, not because you must but because you want to, and not greedily but eagerly, as God desires. 2Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, watching over them--not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve;
Do not lord it over the people entrusted to you, but be examples to the flock. 3not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.
Then, when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the victor's crown of glory that will never fade away.4And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.
In a similar way, you young people must submit to the elders. All of you must clothe yourselves with humility for the sake of each other, because: "God opposes the arrogant, but gives grace to the humble." 5In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble."
Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that at the proper time he may exalt you. 6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
Throw all your worry on him, because he cares for you. 7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Be clear-minded and alert. Your opponent, the devil, is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 8Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
Resist him and be firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. 9Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you by the Messiah Jesus to his eternal glory, will restore you, establish you, strengthen you, and support you. 10And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
Power belongs to him forever and ever! Amen.11To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.
Through Silvanus, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written this short letter to encourage you and to testify that this is to be the true grace of God in which you are to stand firm! 12With the help of Silas, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly, encouraging you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it.
Your sister church in Babylon, chosen along with you, sends you greetings, as does Mark, whom I regard as a son. 13She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you her greetings, and so does my son Mark.
Greet one another with a loving kiss. Peace be to all of you who are in the Messiah! 14Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
