Holman Christian Standard Bible | English Standard Version |
A Davidic psalm. LORD, I call on You; hurry to help me. Listen to my voice when I call on You. | 1O LORD, I call upon you; hasten to me! Give ear to my voice when I call to you! |
May my prayer be set before You as incense, the raising of my hands as the evening offering. | 2Let my prayer be counted as incense before you, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice! |
LORD, set up a guard for my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips. | 3Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! |
Do not let my heart turn to any evil thing or perform wicked acts with men who commit sin. Do not let me feast on their delicacies. | 4Do not let my heart incline to any evil, to busy myself with wicked deeds in company with men who work iniquity, and let me not eat of their delicacies! |
Let the righteous one strike me-- it is an act of faithful love; let him rebuke me-- it is oil for my head; let me not refuse it. Even now my prayer is against the evil acts of the wicked. | 5Let a righteous man strike me—it is a kindness; let him rebuke me—it is oil for my head; let my head not refuse it. Yet my prayer is continually against their evil deeds. |
When their rulers will be thrown off the sides of a cliff, the people will listen to my words, for they are pleasing. | 6When their judges are thrown over the cliff, then they shall hear my words, for they are pleasant. |
As when one plows and breaks up the soil, turning up rocks, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of Sheol. | 7As when one plows and breaks up the earth, so shall our bones be scattered at the mouth of Sheol. |
But my eyes look to You, Lord GOD. I seek refuge in You; do not let me die. | 8But my eyes are toward you, O GOD, my Lord; in you I seek refuge; leave me not defenseless! |
Protect me from the trap they have set for me, and from the snares of evildoers. | 9Keep me from the trap that they have laid for me and from the snares of evildoers! |
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by safely. | 10Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by safely. |
