Remember, O LORD, in David’s favor, all the hardships he endured, | 1A song of ascents. LORD, remember David and all his self-denial. |
how he swore to the LORD and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob, | 2He swore an oath to the LORD, he made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob: |
“I will not enter my house or get into my bed, | 3"I will not enter my house or go to my bed, |
I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, | 4I will allow no sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, |
until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.” | 5till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob." |
Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar. | 6We heard it in Ephrathah, we came upon it in the fields of Jaar: |
“Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool!” | 7"Let us go to his dwelling place, let us worship at his footstool, saying, |
Arise, O LORD, and go to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. | 8Arise, LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. |
Let your priests be clothed with righteousness, and let your saints shout for joy. | 9May your priests be clothed with your righteousness; may your faithful people sing for joy.'" |
For the sake of your servant David, do not turn away the face of your anointed one. | 10For the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed one. |
The LORD swore to David a sure oath from which he will not turn back: “One of the sons of your body I will set on your throne. | 11The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath he will not revoke: "One of your own descendants I will place on your throne. |
If your sons keep my covenant and my testimonies that I shall teach them, their sons also forever shall sit on your throne.” | 12If your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever." |
For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his dwelling place: | 13For the LORD has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling, saying, |
“This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it. | 14"This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it. |
I will abundantly bless her provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread. | 15I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor I will satisfy with food. |
Her priests I will clothe with salvation, and her saints will shout for joy. | 16I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful people will ever sing for joy. |
There I will make a horn to sprout for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed. | 17"Here I will make a horn grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one. |
His enemies I will clothe with shame, but on him his crown will shine.” | 18I will clothe his enemies with shame, but his head will be adorned with a radiant crown." |
