LORD, I call on you; hurry to help me. Listen to my voice when I call on you. | 1A psalm of David. O LORD, I cry out to you. Come quickly to me! Pay attention to me when I cry out to you! |
May my prayer be set before you as incense, the raising of my hands as the evening offering. | 2May you accept my prayer like incense, my uplifted hands like the evening offering! |
LORD, set up a guard for my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips. | 3O LORD, place a guard on my mouth! Protect the opening of my lips! |
Do not let my heart turn to any evil thing or perform wicked acts with men who commit sin. Do not let me feast on their delicacies. | 4Do not let me have evil desires, or participate in sinful activities with men who behave wickedly. I will not eat their delicacies. |
Let the righteous one strike me--it is an act of faithful love; let him rebuke me--it is oil for my head; let me not refuse it. Even now my prayer is against the evil acts of the wicked. | 5May the godly strike me in love and correct me! May my head not refuse choice oil! Indeed, my prayer is a witness against their evil deeds. |
When their rulers will be thrown off the sides of a cliff, the people will listen to my words, for they are pleasing. | 6They will be thrown down the side of a cliff by their judges. They will listen to my words, for they are pleasant. |
As when one plows and breaks up the soil, turning up rocks, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of Sheol. | 7As when one plows and breaks up the soil, so our bones are scattered at the mouth of Sheol. |
But my eyes look to you, LORD, my Lord. I seek refuge in you; do not let me die. | 8Surely I am looking to you, O sovereign LORD. In you I take shelter. Do not expose me to danger! |
Protect me from the trap they have set for me, and from the snares of evildoers. | 9Protect me from the snare they have laid for me, and the traps the evildoers have set. |
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by safely. | 10Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I escape. |
