| 1A Song of Ascents. Out of the depths I cry to You, O LORD! | 1A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem. From the depths of despair, O LORD, I call for your help. |
| 2O LORD, hear my voice; let Your ears be attentive to my plea for mercy. | 2Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer. |
| 3If You, O LORD, kept track of iniquities, then who, O Lord, could stand? | 3LORD, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive? |
| 4But with You there is forgiveness, that You may be feared. | 4But you offer forgiveness, that we might learn to fear you. |
| 5I wait for the LORD; my soul does wait, and in His word I put my hope. | 5I am counting on the LORD; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word. |
| 6My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning—more than watchmen waiting for the morning. | 6I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn. |
| 7O Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is loving devotion, and with Him is redemption in abundance. | 7O Israel, hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is unfailing love. His redemption overflows. |
| 8And He will redeem Israel from all its iniquities. | 8He himself will redeem Israel from every kind of sin. |
