Now Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, along with cedar logs, stonemasons, and carpenters, to build a palace for him.1Then King Hiram of Tyre sent messengers to David, along with cedar timber, and stonemasons and carpenters to build him a palace.
And David realized that the LORD had established him as king over Israel and had highly exalted his kingdom for the sake of His people Israel.2And David realized that the LORD had confirmed him as king over Israel and had greatly blessed his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.
And David took more wives in Jerusalem and became the father of more sons and daughters.3Then David married more wives in Jerusalem, and they had more sons and daughters.
These are the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,4These are the names of David’s sons who were born in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,

When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they all went in search of him; but David learned of this and went out to face them.8When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they mobilized all their forces to capture him. But David was told they were coming, so he marched out to meet them.
Now the Philistines had come and raided the Valley of Rephaim.9The Philistines arrived and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.
So David inquired of God, “Should I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” “Go,” replied the LORD, “for I will deliver them into your hand.”10So David asked God, “Should I go out to fight the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?” The LORD replied, “Yes, go ahead. I will hand them over to you.”
So David and his men went up to Baal-perazim, where he defeated the Philistines and said, “Like a bursting flood, God has burst out against my enemies by my hand.” So they called that place Baal-perazim.11So David and his troops went up to Baal-perazim and defeated the Philistines there. “God did it!” David exclaimed. “He used me to burst through my enemies like a raging flood!” So they named that place Baal-perazim (which means “the Lord who bursts through”).
There the Philistines abandoned their gods, and David ordered that they be burned in the fire.12The Philistines had abandoned their gods there, so David gave orders to burn them.
Once again the Philistines raided the valley.13But after a while the Philistines returned and raided the valley again.
So David again inquired of God, who answered him, “Do not march up after them, but circle around them and attack them in front of the balsam trees.14And once again David asked God what to do. “Do not attack them straight on,” God replied. “Instead, circle around behind and attack them near the poplar trees.
As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, move out to battle, because this will mean that God has marched out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”15When you hear a sound like marching feet in the tops of the poplar trees, go out and attack! That will be the signal that God is moving ahead of you to strike down the Philistine army.”
So David did as God had commanded him, and they struck down the army of the Philistines all the way from Gibeon to Gezer.16So David did what God commanded, and they struck down the Philistine army all the way from Gibeon to Gezer.
And David’s fame went out into every land, and the LORD caused all nations to fear him.17So David’s fame spread everywhere, and the LORD caused all the nations to fear David.
