Berean Study Bible | New International Version |
For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. Hear, O God, my voice of complaint; preserve my life from dread of the enemy. | 1For the director of music. A psalm of David. Hear me, my God, as I voice my complaint; protect my life from the threat of the enemy. |
Hide me from the scheming of the wicked, from the mob of workers of iniquity, | 2Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked, from the plots of evildoers. |
who sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows, | 3They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim cruel words like deadly arrows. |
ambushing the innocent in seclusion, shooting suddenly, without fear. | 4They shoot from ambush at the innocent; they shoot suddenly, without fear. |
They hold fast to their evil purpose; they speak of hiding their snares. “Who will see them?” they say. | 5They encourage each other in evil plans, they talk about hiding their snares; they say, "Who will see it?" |
They devise injustice and say, “We have perfected a secret plan.” For the inner man and the heart are mysterious. | 6They plot injustice and say, "We have devised a perfect plan!" Surely the human mind and heart are cunning. |
But God will shoot them with arrows; suddenly they will be wounded. | 7But God will shoot them with his arrows; they will suddenly be struck down. |
They will be made to stumble, their own tongues turned against them. All who see will shake their heads. | 8He will turn their own tongues against them and bring them to ruin; all who see them will shake their heads in scorn. |
Then all mankind will fear and proclaim the work of God; so they will ponder what He has done. | 9All people will fear; they will proclaim the works of God and ponder what he has done. |
Let the righteous rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in Him; let all the upright in heart exult. | 10The righteous will rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in him; all the upright in heart will glory in him! |
