A song of ascents. O LORD, remember on behalf of David all the hardships he endured,1A song of ascents. O LORD, for David's sake remember all his strenuous effort,
how he swore an oath to the LORD, and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:2and how he made a vow to the LORD, and swore an oath to the powerful ruler of Jacob.
“I will not enter my house or get into my bed,3He said, "I will not enter my own home, or get into my bed.
I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids,4I will not allow my eyes to sleep, or my eyelids to slumber,
until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”5until I find a place for the LORD, a fine dwelling place for the powerful ruler of Jacob."
We heard that the ark was in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar.6Look, we heard about it in Ephrathah, we found it in the territory of Jaar.
Let us go to His dwelling place; let us worship at His footstool.7Let us go to his dwelling place! Let us worship before his footstool!
Arise, O LORD, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength.8Ascend, O LORD, to your resting place, you and the ark of your strength!
May Your priests be clothed with righteousness, and Your saints shout for joy.9May your priests be clothed with integrity! May your loyal followers shout for joy!
For the sake of Your servant David, do not reject Your anointed one.10For the sake of David, your servant, do not reject your chosen king!
The LORD swore an oath to David, a promise He will not revoke: “One of your descendants I will place on your throne.11The LORD made a reliable promise to David; he will not go back on his word. He said, "I will place one of your descendants on your throne.
If your sons keep My covenant and the testimony I will teach them, then their sons will also sit on your throne forever and ever.”12If your sons keep my covenant and the rules I teach them, their sons will also sit on your throne forever."
For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His home:13Certainly the LORD has chosen Zion; he decided to make it his home.
“This is My resting place forever and ever; here I will dwell, for I have desired this home.14He said, "This will be my resting place forever; I will live here, for I have chosen it.
I will bless her with abundant provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread.15I will abundantly supply what she needs; I will give her poor all the food they need.
I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints will sing out in joy.16I will protect her priests, and her godly people will shout exuberantly.
There I will make a horn grow for David; I have prepared a lamp for My anointed one.17There I will make David strong; I have determined that my chosen king's dynasty will continue.
I will clothe his enemies with shame, but the crown upon him will gleam.”18I will humiliate his enemies, and his crown will shine.
