The Day of the Lord

(Zephaniah 1:7-18; 2 Peter 3:8-13)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
1Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you,1Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you.1Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you.1But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.1About the times and the seasons: Brothers, you do not need anything to be written to you.
2for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.2For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.2For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.2For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.2For you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.
3While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.3While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.3While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.3For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.3When they say, "Peace and security," then sudden destruction comes on them, like labor pains come on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
4But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief.4But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief.4But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief;4But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.4But you, brothers, are not in the dark, for this day to overtake you like a thief.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
5You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.5For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.5for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness;5Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.5For you are all sons of light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness.
6So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.6So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.6so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober.6Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.6So then, we must not sleep, like the rest, but we must stay awake and be serious.
7For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.7For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night.7For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night.7For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.7For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.
8But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.8But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.8But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation.8But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.8But since we belong to the day, we must be serious and put the armor of faith and love on our chests, and put on a helmet of the hope of salvation.
9For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.9For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,9For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,9For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,9For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

10He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.10who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him.10who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him.10Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.10who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him.
11Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.11Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.11Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.11Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.11Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.

12Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you.12We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you,12But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction,12And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;12Now we ask you, brothers, to give recognition to those who labor among you and lead you in the Lord and admonish you,
13Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.13and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.13and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another.13And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.13and to regard them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.
14And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone.14And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.14We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.14Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.14And we exhort you, brothers: warn those who are irresponsible, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
15Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.15See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.15See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people.15See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.15See to it that no one repays evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good for one another and for all.

May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.23Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.23Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.23And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.23Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely.
