Mark 13
Literal Emphasis Translation Par ▾
1And as He is going out from the temple, one of His disciples says to Him, Teacher, behold what stones and what buildings! 2And Jesus said to him, Do you see these great buildings? Not a stone upon stone shall be left here, which shall not be torn down (loosed/ dissolved/ unbound down, latin-destruatur-destroyed).

3And as He sat upon the mount of Olives, opposite (over against) the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew inquired of Him in private, 4Tell us when these things will be? And what [will be] the sign when these things all are about to be culminated? 5And Jesus began to say to them, Take heed (Be observant, beware), lest anyone mislead (deviate, cause you to wander) you. 6Many will come upon My name, saying, I am He (It is I), and they will mislead many. 7And when you shall hear of wars (battles, strifes) and hearings (akoas) of wars, do not be disturbed (clamored, alarmed, startled, agitated); it must happen, but the end is not yet. 8For ethnicity (nation) will rise up against (upon) ethnicity (nation, people group of a similar custom or common culture), and kingdom against (upon) kingdom; there will be earthquakes throughout (according to) places, there will be famines. These are the beginning (origin) of birth pains.

9However take heed (beware, be observant) you to yourselves; they will betray (hand over) you into the councils (courts) and into the synagogues (assemblies); you will be beaten, and you will be made to stand before (upon) governors (officials, leaders) and kings for the sake of Me unto a testimony to them.

10And it is necessary to preach the gospel (evangel) unto all the ethnicities (nations) first. 11And when they might lead you away, handing you over, do not be anxious (concerned) beforehand as to what you should say, but whatever might be given to you in that there hour, speak that; for you are not speaking those, but the Holy Spirit. 12And brother will hand over brother unto death, and father, child; and children will rise up against (upon) parents and will put them to death. 13And you will be hated (detested) by (under) all on account of My name; and the one having endured unto the end, he will be saved.

14And when you see the abomination (abominable/ detestable/ accursed thing, disgustingly abhorrent thing, that which reeks with strench) of the desolation (devastation, make destitute/ waste/ barren), {which was spoken of by Daniel the prophet}, standing where it must not, the one reading let him understand, then those in Judea, let them flee into the mountains, 15And the one upon the housetop, do not let him come down, nor go in to take anything out of his house; 16And the one in the field (country), do not let him return unto the things behind, to take his clothing (outer garments). 17And woe to those having [child] in womb and to those nursing infants in those there days! 18And pray so that it might not be in winter, 19For there will be in those there days such tribulation as has never been such kind from the beginning of creation which God created until now- and never shall be. 20And if the Lord had not shortened (curtailed) the days, there would have been no flesh at all saved; but on account of the elect (chosen) whom He elected (chose) He has shortened the days. 21And then if anyone says to you, Behold, here is the Christ, Behold there, you shall not believe it. 22For there will arise false-christs and false-prophets and will give signs and wonders (terata- portents from heaven to earth/terra) to lead astray (cause to wander away from) if possible (able) the elect. 23And you take heed (beware, be observant); I have foretold (proeireka, to say beforehand) all things to you.

24But in those there days, after that there tribulation, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its brightness (radiance); 25And the stars will be falling from out of the heaven and the powers that are in the heavens will be shaken (agitated, excited, root salos means tossing/swelling like of the sea). 26And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory; 27And then He will send His angels and will gather upon together His elect from out of the four gusting winds, away from the farthest of the earth until the farthest of heaven.

28And from the fig tree, learn (disciple) the parable: when its branch has already become tender and it puts (grows, sprouts) out the leaves, you know that summer is near. 29In this way (thus, so) you also, when you see these things happen, know that it is near upon the doors. 30Truly, I say to you, that this generation will not have passed by (away) until that all these things shall have happened. 31The heaven and the earth will pass by (away) however My words will not pass by (away).

32And concerning that there day or hour, no one knows; not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, except the Father.

33Be observant (take heed, beware), do not be sleeping; for you do not know when the time (opportune time) is. 34It is like as a man going away from his country (common people bound to a custom and laws), having left his house and having given his servants (doulos) the authority, to each one his work, and he commanded the doorkeeper (door guard) so that he should stay awake to vigilantly watch guard. 35Stay awake to vigilantly watch guard therefore- for you do not know, when the lord of the house comes: or at evening or at midnight, or when the rooster crows (12-3am), or early morning; 36Lest having come suddenly (unexpectedly), he should find you sleeping. 37And what I say to you, I say to all, Stay awake to vigilantly watch guard!
