3Who of you is left who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not seem to you like nothing? | 3‘Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How do you see it now? Is it not as nothing in your eyes? | 3'Who is left among you who saw this temple in its former glory? And how do you see it now? Does it not seem to you like nothing in comparison? | 3Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing? | 3Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Doesn't it seem like nothing to you? |
4But now be strong, Zerubbabel,' declares the LORD. 'Be strong, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,' declares the LORD, 'and work. For I am with you,' declares the LORD Almighty. | 4Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, declares the LORD. Be strong, O Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land, declares the LORD. 5This is what I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt. And my Spirit remains among you. Do not fear.' | 5according to the covenant that I made with you when you came out of Egypt. 6"This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. | 6For thus says the LORD of hosts: Yet once more, in a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land. | 6"For thus says the LORD of hosts, 'Once more in a little while, I am going to shake the heavens and the earth, the sea also and the dry land. | 6For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; | 6For the LORD of Hosts says this: "Once more, in a little while, I am going to shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. |
7I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,' says the LORD Almighty. | 7And I will shake all nations, so that the treasures of all nations shall come in, and I will fill this house with glory, says the LORD of hosts. | 7'I will shake all the nations; and they will come with the wealth of all nations, and I will fill this house with glory,' says the LORD of hosts. | 7And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts. | 7I will shake all the nations so that the treasures of all the nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory," says the LORD of Hosts. 9The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,' says the LORD Almighty. 'And in this place I will grant peace,' declares the LORD Almighty." | 9The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the LORD of hosts. 11"This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Ask the priests what the law says: | 11“Thus says the LORD of hosts: Ask the priests about the law: | 11"Thus says the LORD of hosts, 'Ask now the priests for a ruling: | 11Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying, | 11This is what the LORD of Hosts says: Ask the priests for a ruling. |
12If someone carries consecrated meat in the fold of their garment, and that fold touches some bread or stew, some wine, olive oil or other food, does it become consecrated?'" The priests answered, "No." | 12‘If someone carries holy meat in the fold of his garment and touches with his fold bread or stew or wine or oil or any kind of food, does it become holy?’” The priests answered and said, “No.” | 12If a man carries holy meat in the fold of his garment, and touches bread with this fold, or cooked food, wine, oil, or any other food, will it become holy?'" And the priests answered, "No." | 12If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? "Yes," the priests replied, "it becomes defiled." | 13Then Haggai said, “If someone who is unclean by contact with a dead body touches any of these, does it become unclean?” The priests answered and said, “It does become unclean.” | 13Then Haggai said, "If one who is unclean from a corpse touches any of these, will the latter become unclean?" And the priests answered, "It will become unclean." | 13Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean. | 13Then Haggai asked, "If someone defiled by contact with a corpse touches any of these, does it become defiled?" The priests answered, "It becomes defiled." |
14Then Haggai said, "'So it is with this people and this nation in my sight,' declares the LORD. 'Whatever they do and whatever they offer there is defiled. | 14Then Haggai answered and said, “So is it with this people, and with this nation before me, declares the LORD, and so with every work of their hands. And what they offer there is unclean. | 14Then Haggai said, "'So is this people. And so is this nation before Me,' declares the LORD, 'and so is every work of their hands; and what they offer there is unclean. | 14Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean. | 14Then Haggai replied, "So is this people, and so is this nation before Me"--this is the LORD's declaration. "And so is every work of their hands; even what they offer there is defiled." |
15"'Now give careful thought to this from this day on --consider how things were before one stone was laid on another in the LORD's temple. | 15Now then, consider from this day onward. Before stone was placed upon stone in the temple of the LORD, | 15'But now, do consider from this day onward: before one stone was placed on another in the temple of the LORD, | 15And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD: | 15Now, reflect back from this day: Before one stone was placed on another in the LORD's temple, |
16When anyone came to a heap of twenty measures, there were only ten. When anyone went to a wine vat to draw fifty measures, there were only twenty. | 16how did you fare? When one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were but ten. When one came to the wine vat to draw fifty measures, there were but twenty. | 16from that time when one came to a grain heap of twenty measures, there would be only ten; and when one came to the wine vat to draw fifty measures, there would be only twenty. | 16Since those days were, when one came to an heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one came to the pressfat for to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty. | 16what state were you in? When someone came to a grain heap of 20 measures, it only amounted to 10; when one came to the winepress to dip 50 measures from the vat, it only amounted to 20. |
17I struck all the work of your hands with blight, mildew and hail, yet you did not return to me,' declares the LORD. | 17I struck you and all the products of your toil with blight and with mildew and with hail, yet you did not turn to me, declares the LORD. | 17I smote you and every work of your hands with blasting wind, mildew and hail; yet you did not come back to Me,' declares the LORD. | 17I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet ye turned not to me, saith the LORD. | 17I struck you--all the work of your hands--with blight, mildew, and hail, but you didn't turn to Me"--this is the LORD's declaration. 18From this day on, from this twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, give careful thought to the day when the foundation of the LORD's temple was laid. Give careful thought: | 18Consider from this day onward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month. Since the day that the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid, consider: | 18Do consider from this day onward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month; from the day when the temple of the LORD was founded, consider: | 18Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD'S temple was laid, consider it. | 18Consider carefully from this day forward; from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the day the foundation of the LORD's temple was laid; consider it carefully. |
19Is there yet any seed left in the barn? Until now, the vine and the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree have not borne fruit. "'From this day on I will bless you.'" | 19Is the seed yet in the barn? Indeed, the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have yielded nothing. But from this day on I will bless you.” | 19Is the seed still in the barn? Even including the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree, it has not borne fruit. Zerubbabel the Lord's Signet Ring 20The word of the LORD came to Haggai a second time on the twenty-fourth day of the month: | 20The word of the LORD came a second time to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, | 20Then the word of the LORD came a second time to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying, | 20And again the word of the LORD came unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying, | 20The word of the LORD came to Haggai a second time on the twenty-fourth day of the month: " |
21"Tell Zerubbabel governor of Judah that I am going to shake the heavens and the earth. | 21“Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I am about to shake the heavens and the earth, | 21"Speak to Zerubbabel governor of Judah, saying, 'I am going to shake the heavens and the earth. | 21Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth; | 21Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah: I am going to shake the heavens and the earth. |
22I will overturn royal thrones and shatter the power of the foreign kingdoms. I will overthrow chariots and their drivers; horses and their riders will fall, each by the sword of his brother. | 22and to overthrow the throne of kingdoms. I am about to destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations, and overthrow the chariots and their riders.
