The Bride’s Dream

1  עַל־ (On) מִשְׁכָּבִי֙ (my bed) בַּלֵּיל֔וֹת (in the night)

בִּקַּ֕שְׁתִּי (I sought) אֵ֥ת (him) שֶׁאָהֲבָ֖ה (whom loves) נַפְשִׁ֑י (my soul);

בִּקַּשְׁתִּ֖יו (I sought him),

וְלֹ֥א (not) מְצָאתִֽיו׃ (did I find him).

2  אָק֨וּמָה (I will rise), נָּ֜א (now), וַאֲסוֹבְבָ֣ה (and go) בָעִ֗יר (about the city),

בַּשְּׁוָקִים֙ (in the streets) וּבָ֣רְחֹב֔וֹת (and in the broad places).

אֲבַקְשָׁ֕ה (I will seek) אֵ֥ת (the one) שֶׁאָהֲבָ֖ה (whom loves) נַפְשִׁ֑י (my soul).

בִּקַּשְׁתִּ֖יו (I sought him), וְלֹ֥א (not) מְצָאתִֽיו׃ (did I find him).

3  מְצָא֙וּנִי֙ (Found me) הַשֹּׁ֣מְרִ֔ים (the guards) הַסֹּבְבִ֖ים (in their going round) בָּעִ֑יר (about the city) אֵ֛ת (-)

שֶׁאָהֲבָ֥ה (the one that loves)? נַפְשִׁ֖י (My soul) רְאִיתֶֽם׃ (have you⁺ seen him).

4  כִּמְעַט֙ (Scarcely) שֶׁעָבַ֣רְתִּי (had I passed) מֵהֶ֔ם (by them) עַ֣ד (when) שֶֽׁמָּצָ֔אתִי (I found) אֵ֥ת (the one) שֶׁאָהֲבָ֖ה (whom loves) נַפְשִׁ֑י (my soul);

אֲחַזְתִּיו֙ (I held him) וְלֹ֣א (and not) אַרְפֶּ֔נּוּ (would I let him go),

עַד־ (until) שֶׁ֤הֲבֵיאתִיו֙ (I had brought him) אֶל־ (to) בֵּ֣ית (the house) אִמִּ֔י (of my mother),

וְאֶל־ (and into) חֶ֖דֶר (the chamber) הוֹרָתִֽי׃ (of her who conceived me).

5  הִשְׁבַּ֨עְתִּי (I adjure) אֶתְכֶ֜ם (you⁺), בְּנ֤וֹת (O daughters) יְרוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ (of Jerusalem),

בִּצְבָא֔וֹת (by the gazelles) א֖וֹ (or) בְּאַיְל֣וֹת (by the does) הַשָּׂדֶ֑ה (of the field),

אִם־ (do not) תָּעִ֧ירוּ׀ (arouse) וְֽאִם־ (or) תְּעֽוֹרְר֛וּ (awaken) אֶת־ (-) הָאַהֲבָ֖ה (love),

עַ֥ד (until) שֶׁתֶּחְפָּֽץ׃ס (it pleases).

Solomon Arrives on His Wedding Day

6  מִ֣י (Who is) זֹ֗את (this) עֹלָה֙ (coming up) מִן־ (from) הַמִּדְבָּ֔ר (the wilderness)

כְּתִֽימֲר֖וֹת (like pillars) עָשָׁ֑ן (of smoke),

מְקֻטֶּ֤רֶת (scented) מוֹר֙ (with myrrh) וּלְבוֹנָ֔ה (and frankincense),

מִכֹּ֖ל (with all) אַבְקַ֥ת (the fragrant powders) רוֹכֵֽל׃ (of the merchant)?

7  הִנֵּ֗ה (Behold) מִטָּתוֹ֙ (it is the couch)— שֶׁלִּשְׁלֹמֹ֔ה (of Solomon)—

שִׁשִּׁ֥ים (sixty) גִּבֹּרִ֖ים (mighty men) סָבִ֣יב (are around) לָ֑הּ (it), מִגִּבֹּרֵ֖י (the mighty ones) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel).

8  כֻּלָּם֙ (All of them) אֲחֻ֣זֵי (are grasping) חֶ֔רֶב (a sword),

מְלֻמְּדֵ֖י (studied in) מִלְחָמָ֑ה (warfare).

אִ֤ישׁ (Each man has) חַרְבּוֹ֙ (his sword) עַל־ (upon) יְרֵכ֔וֹ (his thigh)

מִפַּ֖חַד (against the dread) בַּלֵּילּֽוֹת׃ס (in the nights).

9  אַפִּרְי֗וֹן (A carriage) עָ֤שָׂה (has made) לוֹ֙ (for himself) הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ (King) שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה (Solomon)

מֵעֲצֵ֖י (from the trees) הַלְּבָנֽוֹן׃ (of the Lebanon).

10  עַמּוּדָיו֙ (Its pillars) עָ֣שָׂה (He has made) כֶ֔סֶף (of silver),

רְפִידָת֣וֹ (its back) זָהָ֔ב (of gold), מֶרְכָּב֖וֹ (its seat) אַרְגָּמָ֑ן (of purple),

תּוֹכוֹ֙ (its midst) רָצ֣וּף (is inlaid) אַהֲבָ֔ה (with love)

מִבְּנ֖וֹת (by the daughters) יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ (of Jerusalem).

11  צְאֶ֧ינָה׀ (Go forth) וּֽרְאֶ֛ינָה (and gaze), בְּנ֥וֹת (O daughters) צִיּ֖וֹן (of Zion),

בַּמֶּ֣לֶךְ (at King) שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה (Solomon),

בָּעֲטָרָ֗ה (at the crown) שֶׁעִטְּרָה־ (with which crowned) לּ֤וֹ (him) אִמּוֹ֙ (his mother)

בְּי֣וֹם (on the day) חֲתֻנָּת֔וֹ (of his wedding),

וּבְי֖וֹם (and on the day) שִׂמְחַ֥ת (of the joy) לִבּֽוֹ׃ס (of his heart).
