In the Day of Trouble I Sought the Lord

לַמְנַצֵּ֥חַ (For the one directing). עַֽל־ (According to) יְדִיתוּן (Jeduthun). לְאָסָ֥ף (Of Asaph) מִזְמֽוֹר׃ (a Psalm).

1קוֹלִ֣י (My voice is) אֶל־ (to) אֱלֹהִ֣ים (God),

וְאֶצְעָ֑קָה (and I cry out) קוֹלִ֥י (with my voice) אֶל־ (to) אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים (God), וְהַאֲזִ֥ין (and He has given ear) אֵלָֽי׃ (to me).

2  בְּי֥וֹם (In the day) צָרָתִי֮ (of my distress) אֲדֹנָ֪י (the Lord) דָּ֫רָ֥שְׁתִּי (I sought);

יָדִ֤י׀ (my hand) לַ֣יְלָה (in the night) נִ֭גְּרָה (has been stretched out), וְלֹ֣א (and not) תָפ֑וּג (does it slacken);

מֵאֲנָ֖ה (refuses) הִנָּחֵ֣ם (to be comforted) נַפְשִֽׁי׃ (my soul).

3  אֶזְכְּרָ֣ה (I remember), אֱלֹהִ֣ים (God), וְאֶֽהֱמָיָ֑ה (and I groan);

אָשִׂ֓יחָה׀ (I meditate), וְתִתְעַטֵּ֖ף (and becomes faint) רוּחִ֣י (my spirit).

סֶֽלָה׃ (Selah)

4  אָ֭חַזְתָּ (You hold) שְׁמֻר֣וֹת (the lids) עֵינָ֑י (of my eyes);

נִ֝פְעַ֗מְתִּי (I am troubled) וְלֹ֣א (and not) אֲדַבֵּֽר׃ (can I speak).

5  חִשַּׁ֣בְתִּי (I consider) יָמִ֣ים (the days) מִקֶּ֑דֶם (of old),

שְׁ֝נ֗וֹת (the years) עוֹלָמִֽים׃ (of ages past).

6  אֶֽזְכְּרָ֥ה (I remember) נְגִינָתִ֗י (my song) בַּ֫לָּ֥יְלָה (in the night);

עִם־ (with) לְבָבִ֥י (my heart) אָשִׂ֑יחָה (I converse) וַיְחַפֵּ֥שׂ (and searches) רוּחִֽי׃ (my spirit).

7  הַֽ֭לְעוֹלָמִים (Will forever) יִזְנַ֥ח׀ (reject us) אֲדֹנָ֑י (the Lord)?

וְלֹֽא־ (And not) יֹסִ֖יף (will He add) לִרְצ֣וֹת (to show favor) עֽוֹד׃ (anymore)?

8  הֶאָפֵ֣ס (Has ceased) לָנֶ֣צַח (forever) חַסְדּ֑וֹ (His loving devotion)?

גָּ֥מַר (Has come to an end) אֹ֝֗מֶר (His speech) לְדֹ֣ר (to generation) וָדֹֽר׃ (and generation)?

9  הֲשָׁכַ֣ח (Has forgotten) חַנּ֣וֹת (to show favor) אֵ֑ל (God)? אִם־ (Or)

קָפַ֥ץ (has He shut up) בְּ֝אַ֗ף (in anger) רַחֲמָ֥יו (His compassion)?

סֶֽלָה׃ (Selah)

10  וָ֭אֹמַר (and I said), חַלּ֣וֹתִי (I am grieved),

הִ֑יא (it) שְׁ֝נ֗וֹת (has changed) יְמִ֣ין (the right hand) עֶלְיֽוֹן׃ (of the Most High).

11  אַזְכִּיר (I will remember) מַֽעַלְלֵי־ (the deeds) יָ֑הּ (of YAH);

כִּֽי־ (indeed) אֶזְכְּרָ֖ה (I will remember) מִקֶּ֣דֶם (of old) פִּלְאֶֽךָ׃ (Your wonder).

12  וְהָגִ֥יתִי (And I have meditated) בְכָל־ (on all) פָּעֳלֶ֑ךָ (Your work),

וּֽבַעֲלִ֖ילוֹתֶ֣יךָ (and Your deeds) אָשִֽׂיחָה׃ (I put forth).

13  אֱ֭לֹהִים (O God), בַּקֹּ֣דֶשׁ (in holiness) דַּרְכֶּ֑ךָ (is Your way).

מִי־ (What) אֵ֥ל (god) גָּ֝ד֗וֹל (is great) כֵּֽאלֹהִֽים׃ (like God)?

14  אַתָּ֣ה (You are) הָ֭אֵל (the God) עֹ֣שֵׂה (doing) פֶ֑לֶא (wonders);

הוֹדַ֖עְתָּ (You have made known) בָעַמִּ֣ים (among the peoples) עֻזֶּֽךָ׃ (Your strength).

15  גָּאַ֣לְתָּ (You have redeemed) בִּזְר֣וֹעַ (with Your arm) עַמֶּ֑ךָ (a people),

בְּנֵי־ (the sons) יַעֲקֹ֖ב (of Jacob) וְיוֹסֵ֣ף (and Joseph).

סֶֽלָה׃ (Selah)

16  רָ֘א֤וּךָ (saw You) מַּ֨יִם׀ (the waters), אֱ‍ֽלֹהִ֗ים (O God),

רָא֣וּךָ (saw You) מַּ֣יִם (the waters) יָחִ֑ילוּ (and swirled);

אַ֝֗ף (even) יִרְגְּז֥וּ (trembled) תְהֹמֽוֹת׃ (the depths).

17  זֹ֤רְמוּ (Poured forth) מַ֨יִם׀ (waters) עָב֗וֹת (the clouds);

ק֭וֹל (a voice) נָתְנ֣וּ (gave forth) שְׁחָקִ֑ים (the skies);

אַף־ (and), חֲ֝צָצֶ֗יךָ (Your arrows) יִתְהַלָּֽכוּ׃ (flashed back and forth).

18  ק֤וֹל (The voice) רַעַמְךָ֨׀ (of Your thunder) בַּגַּלְגַּ֗ל (was in the whirlwind);

הֵאִ֣ירוּ (lit up) בְרָקִ֣ים (the lightnings) תֵּבֵ֑ל (the world);

רָגְזָ֖ה (trembled) וַתִּרְעַ֣שׁ (and shook) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the earth).

19  בַּיָּ֤ם (In the sea) דַּרְכֶּ֗ךָ (was Your way);

וּשְׁבִילֶיךָ (and Your paths) בְּמַ֣יִם (in the waters) רַבִּ֑ים (great),

וְ֝עִקְּבוֹתֶ֗יךָ (and Your footprints) לֹ֣א (not) נֹדָֽעוּ׃ (were known).

20  נָחִ֣יתָ (You led) כַצֹּ֣אן (like a flock) עַמֶּ֑ךָ (Your people)

בְּֽיַד־ (by the hand) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (of Moses) וְאַהֲרֹֽן׃ (and Aaron).
