Jotham Reigns in Judah
(2 Kings 15:32–38)

1  בֶּן־ (A son) עֶשְׂרִ֨ים (of twenty) וְחָמֵ֤שׁ (and five) שָׁנָה֙ (years) יוֹתָ֣ם (Jotham was) בְּמָלְכ֔וֹ (in his reigning), וְשֵׁשׁ־ (and six) עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה (and ten) שָׁנָ֔ה (years) מָלַ֖ךְ (he reigned) בִּֽירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם (in Jerusalem). וְשֵׁ֣ם (And the name) אִמּ֔וֹ (of His mother) יְרוּשָׁ֖ה (was Jerushah) בַּת־ (daughter) צָדֽוֹק׃ (of Zadok). 2  וַיַּ֨עַשׂ (And he did) הַיָּשָׁ֜ר (right) בְּעֵינֵ֣י (in the eyes) יְהוָ֗ה (of YHWH), כְּכֹ֤ל (according to all) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) עָשָׂה֙ (had done) עֻזִּיָּ֣הוּ (Uzziah) אָבִ֔יו (his father), רַ֕ק (although) לֹא־ (not) בָ֖א (he did enter) אֶל־ (into) הֵיכַ֣ל (the temple) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH). וְע֥וֹד (And again) הָעָ֖ם (the people) מַשְׁחִיתִֽים׃ (acted corruptly).

3  ה֗וּא (He) בָּנָ֛ה (built) אֶת־ (-) שַׁ֥עַר (the Gate) בֵּית־ (of the house) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) הָעֶלְי֑וֹן (the Upper), וּבְחוֹמַ֥ת (and in the Wall) הָעֹ֛פֶל (of Ophel) בָּנָ֖ה (he built) לָרֹֽב׃ (extensively). 4  וְעָרִ֥ים (And cities) בָּנָ֖ה (he built) בְּהַר־ (in the hill country) יְהוּדָ֑ה (of Judah), וּבֶחֳרָשִׁ֣ים (and in the forests) בָּנָ֔ה (he built) בִּֽירָנִיּ֖וֹת (fortresses) וּמִגְדָּלִֽים׃ (and towers).

5  וְ֠הוּא (And He) נִלְחַ֞ם (fought) עִם־ (with) מֶ֣לֶךְ (the king) בְּנֵי־ (of the sons) עַמּוֹן֮ (of Ammon) וַיֶּחֱזַ֣ק (and he prevailed) עֲלֵיהֶם֒ (over them) וַיִּתְּנוּ־ (and gave) ל֨וֹ (to him) בְנֵֽי־ (the sons) עַמּ֜וֹן (of Ammon) בַּשָּׁנָ֣ה (in the year) הַהִ֗יא (that) מֵאָה֙ (a hundred) כִּכַּר־ (talents) כֶּ֔סֶף (of silver), וַעֲשֶׂ֨רֶת (and ten) אֲלָפִ֤ים (thousand) כֹּרִים֙ (cors) חִטִּ֔ים (of wheat), וּשְׂעוֹרִ֖ים (and of barley) עֲשֶׂ֣רֶת (ten) אֲלָפִ֑ים (thousand). זֹ֗את (This) הֵשִׁ֤יבוּ (paid) לוֹ֙ (to him) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) עַמּ֔וֹןס (of Ammon), וּבַשָּׁנָ֥ה (and in the year) הַשֵּׁנִ֖ית (the second) וְהַשְּׁלִשִֽׁית׃ (and in the third). 6  וַיִּתְחַזֵּ֖ק (And strengthened himself) יוֹתָ֑ם (Jotham) כִּ֚י (because) הֵכִ֣ין (he established) דְּרָכָ֔יו (his ways) לִפְנֵ֖י (before) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהָֽיו׃ (his God).

7  וְיֶתֶר֙ (And the rest) דִּבְרֵ֣י (of the acts) יוֹתָ֔ם (of Jotham), וְכָל־ (and all) מִלְחֲמֹתָ֖יו (his wars) וּדְרָכָ֑יו (and his ways), הִנָּ֣ם (behold), כְּתוּבִ֔ים (they are written) עַל־ (in) סֵ֥פֶר (the Book) מַלְכֵֽי־ (of the Kings) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) וִיהוּדָֽה׃ (and Judah). 8  בֶּן־ (A son) עֶשְׂרִ֧ים (of twenty) וְחָמֵ֛שׁ (and five) שָׁנָ֖ה (years) הָיָ֣ה (he was) בְמָלְכ֑וֹ (in his reigning), וְשֵׁשׁ־ (and six) עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה (and ten) שָׁנָ֔ה (years) מָלַ֖ךְ (he reigned) בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ (in Jerusalem). 9  וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב (And rested) יוֹתָם֙ (Jotham) עִם־ (with) אֲבֹתָ֔יו (his fathers), וַיִּקְבְּר֥וּ (and they buried) אֹת֖וֹ (him) בְּעִ֣יר (in the City) דָּוִ֑יד (of David). וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ (And reigned) אָחָ֥ז (Ahaz) בְּנ֖וֹ (his son) תַּחְתָּֽיו׃פ (in his place).
