Struggle in the Old Testament

In the Old Testament, struggle is evident in the lives of many key figures. Jacob's wrestling with God at Peniel (Genesis 32:24-30) is a profound example of personal struggle. Jacob's physical struggle with the angel of the Lord symbolizes his spiritual struggle and transformation. After this encounter, Jacob is renamed Israel, meaning "he struggles with God," highlighting the significance of struggle in his life and the life of the nation that would bear his name.
