In the biblical context, a miracle is an extraordinary event that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is attributed to a divine agency. Miracles are acts of God that reveal His power and authority over creation, often serving as signs to authenticate His messengers and to demonstrate His covenantal faithfulness. They are integral to the narrative of Scripture, illustrating God's direct intervention in the world.

Old Testament Miracles

The Old Testament is replete with miraculous events that underscore God's sovereignty and His relationship with His people. One of the earliest recorded miracles is the parting of the Red Sea, where God delivered the Israelites from Egyptian bondage (Exodus 14:21-22: "Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. Miracles in the Bible serve multiple purposes. They are signs that point to the truth of God's revelation and the authenticity of His messengers. While the biblical era was marked by frequent miraculous events, the nature and frequency of miracles in the contemporary world are subjects of theological debate. However, the biblical record of miracles continues to inspire faith and hope, reminding believers of God's unchanging power and His promise to be with His people until the end of the age (Matthew 28:20).
