The Goal

In the context of Christian theology and biblical teaching, "The Goal" often refers to the ultimate purpose or end that believers are encouraged to pursue in their spiritual journey. This concept is deeply rooted in Scripture and encompasses various aspects of Christian life, including salvation, sanctification, and glorification.

Salvation as the Initial Goal

The initial goal for every believer is salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. This is the foundational step in the Christian journey. The Apostle Paul emphasizes this in his letter to the Romans: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus" (Romans 3:23-24). Salvation is the starting point, marking the believer's reconciliation with God and the beginning of a new life in Christ.

Sanctification: The Ongoing Goal

Following salvation, the goal of sanctification becomes paramount. Sanctification is the process of being made holy, set apart for God's purposes. It is an ongoing transformation that involves growing in righteousness and conforming to the image of Christ. Paul writes to the Thessalonians, "For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality" (1 Thessalonians 4:3). This process is both a divine work and a human responsibility, as believers are called to actively pursue holiness.

The Goal of Love

Love is central to the Christian faith and is often described as the ultimate goal of a believer's life. Jesus Himself declared the greatest commandments: "‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’" (Matthew 22:37-39). The Apostle Paul further underscores this in his letter to the Corinthians, stating, "And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love" (1 Corinthians 13:13). Love is the fulfillment of the law and the evidence of a transformed life.

The Goal of Glorification

The ultimate goal for believers is glorification, which will be fully realized in the life to come. This refers to the final transformation and perfection of believers, where they will be free from sin and fully conformed to the likeness of Christ. Paul speaks of this hope in his letter to the Philippians: "But our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables Him to subject all things to Himself, will transform our lowly bodies to be like His glorious body" (Philippians 3:20-21). Glorification is the culmination of the believer's journey, where they will dwell eternally in the presence of God.

The Goal of the Great Commission

Another significant goal for believers is the fulfillment of the Great Commission. Jesus commanded His disciples, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19-20). This mission is a call to spread the Gospel and expand the Kingdom of God on earth, making it a central goal for the Church and individual believers.

The Goal of Perseverance

Perseverance in faith is also a critical goal for Christians. The New Testament frequently exhorts believers to remain steadfast in their faith amidst trials and tribulations. James writes, "Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him" (James 1:12). Perseverance is essential for maintaining one's faith and achieving the ultimate goals of the Christian life.

In summary, "The Goal" in the Christian context encompasses a range of objectives that guide a believer's life, from initial salvation to ultimate glorification, with love, sanctification, the Great Commission, and perseverance as key components of this spiritual journey.
