Jerusalem:

The capture of Jerusalem is a significant event in biblical history, marking the establishment of the city as a central place of worship and governance for the Israelites. The initial conquest of Jerusalem is attributed to King David, as recorded in the books of Samuel and Chronicles. Prior to David's conquest, Jerusalem was inhabited by the Jebusites, a Canaanite tribe. Despite its strategic location and formidable defenses, David successfully captured the city, which became known as the City of David.

In 2 Samuel 5:6-7 , the account states: "Now the king and his men marched to Jerusalem against the Jebusites who inhabited the land. And the Jebusites said to David, 'You will never get in here; even the blind and lame can repel you.' For they thought, 'David cannot get in here.' Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion (that is, the City of David)." This victory was pivotal, as it established Jerusalem as the political and spiritual center of Israel.

David's capture of Jerusalem was not only a military triumph but also a fulfillment of God's promise to establish a place for His name. The city later became the site of Solomon's Temple, further solidifying its importance in Israelite worship and identity.

Hebron:

Hebron holds a prominent place in biblical history, both as a patriarchal city and as a royal city during the reign of King David. The city is first mentioned in the context of Abraham, who settled there and purchased the Cave of Machpelah as a burial site for his wife Sarah (Genesis 23:19). Hebron thus became a significant patriarchal site, serving as the burial place for Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and their wives.

The capture of Hebron is detailed in the book of Joshua, where it is described as part of the conquest of Canaan. Joshua 10:36-37 recounts: "Then Joshua and all Israel with him went up from Eglon to Hebron and fought against it. They captured the city and put it to the sword, along with its king, its villages, and everyone in it. They left no survivors, just as they had done at Eglon."

Later, Hebron became the first capital of King David's reign over Judah. In 2 Samuel 2:1-4 , David inquires of the Lord whether he should go up to one of the cities of Judah, and the Lord directs him to Hebron. There, the men of Judah anoint David as king over the house of Judah. Hebron served as David's capital for seven and a half years before he moved his throne to Jerusalem, following the capture of that city.

The capture and significance of both Jerusalem and Hebron highlight the unfolding of God's plan for His people, establishing key locations for worship, governance, and the fulfillment of His promises to the patriarchs and the nation of Israel.
