For instance, Isaiah 1:17 exhorts, "Learn to do right; seek justice and correct the oppressor. Defend the fatherless and plead the case of the widow." In the Mosaic Law, God provided specific commandments to ensure justice within the community. Compassion

Compassion in the Bible is portrayed as a deep, empathetic concern for the suffering and needs of others, often leading to acts of kindness and mercy. It is a fundamental attribute of God and a virtue that believers are called to emulate.

The Old Testament frequently describes God as compassionate. In Exodus 34:6 , God reveals Himself to Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD, the LORD God, is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion and truth." This self-revelation underscores God's nature as one who is deeply concerned for His creation and willing to extend grace and mercy.

The Psalms often reflect on God's compassion, as seen in Psalm 103:13 : "As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him." This imagery of a father's love illustrates the tender care and understanding God has for His people.

In the New Testament, Jesus exemplifies compassion through His ministry. He is frequently moved by the suffering of others, leading Him to heal the sick, feed the hungry, and comfort the grieving. In Matthew 9:36 , it is written, "When He saw the crowds, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd." Jesus' compassion is not merely an emotional response but a catalyst for action.

The apostle Paul encourages believers to embody compassion in their relationships with others. In Colossians 3:12 , he writes, "Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with hearts of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience." This exhortation calls Christians to actively cultivate compassion as part of their spiritual character.

Compassion is also linked to the concept of mercy, as seen in the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). This parable illustrates that true compassion transcends social and ethnic boundaries, prompting individuals to act selflessly for the welfare of others.
