Jesus promptly sent him away

Having cleansed the man from leprosy, Jesus directed him immediately toward the process required by the Law of Moses. The man needed to appear before the priest, who could confirm his cleansing and restore him publicly to the worshiping community (Leviticus 14:1–32). Jesus’ healing did not disregard God’s law; it fulfilled the law’s provision for the restoration of one formerly cut off by uncleanness. The healed man was to become a living witness that the Lord had done what no human remedy could accomplish.

Jesus charged the man seriously to obey His instructions, including silence about the miracle and presentation to the priest. The priest’s examination and the required offering would also testify that a true cleansing had occurred. Jesus’ command called the man not merely to celebrate his healing, but to respond with obedient faith.
