Then Joseph sent his brothers on their way, and as they were leaving, he said to them, "Do not quarrel on the way!" Then Joseph sent his brothers on their way,Joseph dismissed them with abundant provisions, wagons, and the charge to bring Jacob to Egypt. The brothers departed Canaan’s famine-bound future with proof that Joseph lived and held authority over Egypt. Their return would prepare the way for Jacob’s household to be preserved, fulfilling God’s purpose to make Abraham’s family into a great nation. Gen 26:31 And they got up early the next morning and swore an oath… and as they were leaving, The journey back to Canaan gave the brothers time to reckon with the sin they had concealed for more than twenty years. They carried news that would overturn Jacob’s grief and reveal that God had used their evil treatment of Joseph to save many lives. Gen 18:33 When the LORD had finished speaking with Abraham,… he said to them, “Do not quarrel on the way!” Joseph knew their former jealousy and the temptation to blame one another for selling him into slavery and deceiving their father. His command called them to receive forgiveness without reopening old accusations. Reconciliation within the family was necessary as they prepared to live together under God’s provision and to become the people through whom He would carry forward His covenant promises. Joseph- The son of Jacob who was sold into slavery by his brothers but rose to become the second most powerful man in Egypt. In Genesis 45:24, Joseph is sending his brothers back to Canaan with provisions and instructions. 2. Joseph's Brothers - The sons of Jacob who initially betrayed Joseph but are now recipients of his forgiveness and generosity. They are instructed by Joseph to return to their father, Jacob, in Canaan. 3. Canaan - The land where Jacob and his family reside.
