Then confront her with all her abominations “As for you, son of man,God addresses Ezekiel by the title used throughout his ministry, reminding the prophet that he is a mortal servant standing before the holy God. Ezekiel must faithfully deliver the Lord’s message despite the resistance of his own people. Jesus later used the title Son of Man for Himself, identifying with humanity while fulfilling the dominion promised to the Son of Man in Daniel 7. Ezk 2:1 “Son of man,” He said to me, “stand up on your feet”… will you judge her? God commissions Ezekiel to pronounce His judicial indictment against Jerusalem. The prophet does not create the standard of judgment; he declares the covenant demands that Judah has knowingly rejected. Jerusalem’s privileged place as the city of the temple does not exempt her from accountability. Ezk 20:4 Will you judge them, will you judge them, son of man?… Will you pass judgment on the city of bloodshed? Jerusalem had become polluted by murder, oppression, corrupt courts, and the sacrifice of children to idols. Manasseh had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and later generations continued in violence rather than repentance. The city called to display God’s righteousness had become liable to the judgment that would soon come through Babylon. Ezk 24:6 Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says:… Then confront her with all her abominations Ezekiel must expose Jerusalem’s idolatry, Sabbath-breaking, sexual immorality, bribery, extortion, and contempt for God’s law. Sin flourishes when hidden, but the Lord brings it into the light before He acts in judgment. The indictment also reveals the need for cleansing and a new heart, blessings God would later promise to give His people.
