Ahaziah had joined Joram of Israel in battle and had bound Judah’s royal house to Ahab’s corrupt dynasty. Ahaziah fled from the violence at Jezreel and sought refuge within Israel’s capital, revealing both his close association with Ahab’s house and his fear of Jehu’s advance. Second Kings records the pursuit and mortal wounding of Ahaziah as he fled toward Megiddo (2 Kings 9:27–28); Chronicles summarizes the outcome of that pursuit. 2Ki 9:24-26 Then Jehu drew his bow and shot Joram between the shoulders.… So Ahaziah was brought to Jehu and put to death. Jehu acted under the commission given through Elisha’s prophet to destroy Ahab’s house and remove Baal’s influence from Israel (2 Kings 9:1–10). Ahaziah’s death was not an attack on the Davidic covenant, for God would preserve David’s line through the child Joash.
