Man was created in God's image (Genesis 1:27); so in knowledge and holiness (Colossians 3:10; Ephesians 4:24). The expression "written" is an allusion to the two tables of stone (Exodus 32:15, 16), perhaps also to Roman laws written on brass. God's law is rewritten in the renewed heart (Jeremiah 31:33; Hebrews 8:10). In creation it is written as a light to direct and convict; in regeneration it is rewritten as a power to govern and transform.
