Matthew 26:1-13 ▼

1 And it came to pass when Jesus finished all these words, He said to His disciples,

2 "Ye know that, after two days, the passover takes place, and the Son of Man is delivered up to be crucified."

3 Then the high priests and the elders of the people were gathered together into the court of the high priest who was called Caiaphas;

4 and they consulted together that they might take Jesus by guile and kill Him.

5 But they said, "Not during the feast, lest an uproar might arise among the people."

6 Now, when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

7 there came to Him a woman having an alabaster cruse of very precious ointment, and poured it down upon His head, while reclining at table.

8 And the disciples, seeing it, were much displeased, saying, "To what purpose is this waste?

9 For this might have been sold for much, and given to the poor!"

10 But Jesus, perceiving it , said to them, "Why do ye give trouble to the woman? for she wrought a good work for Me;

11 for the poor ye always have with you; but Me ye have not always.

12 For she, in pouring this ointment upon My body, did it with reference to My burial.

13 Verily I say to you, wheresoever this Gospel shall be preached in all the world, that also which this woman did shall be spoken of for a memorial of her."
