1 And after six days, Jesus takes along Peter and James and John his brother, and He brings them up onto a high mountain by themselves. 2 And He was transfigured before them, and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became white as the light. 3 And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with Him. 4 And answering, Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If You wish, I will make here three tabernacles—one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 5 In his still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, “This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him!” 6 And having heard it, the disciples fell upon their face, and they were exceedingly terrified. 7 And Jesus, having come near and having touched them, said, “Rise up, and do not be afraid.” 8 And having lifted up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus Himself alone. 9 And in their coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell no one the vision until the Son of Man should be raised out from the dead.” 10 And the disciples questioned Him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that it is necessary for Elijah to come first?” 11 And answering, He said, “Elijah indeed comes and will restore all things. 12 But I say to you? that Elijah did already come, and they did not know him, but they did to him whatever they wanted. Thus also the Son of Man is about to suffer under them.” 13 Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them about John the Baptist. Matthew 17:1-13, Berean Literal Bible. Public domain.
