Matthew 12:39-50 ▼

39 He responding, said to them, A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and no sign shall be given unto it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

40 For as Jonah was in the stomach of the whale three days and three nights, so shall the Son of man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.

41 The men of Nineveh will rise in judgment with this generation, and condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, a greater than Jonah is here.

42 The queen of the south will rise in judgment with this generation, and condemn it: because she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold a greater than Solomon is here.

43 And when the unclean spirit may go out from the man, he goes through dry places seeking rest, and finds none.

44 Then he says, I will return to my own house whence I came out; and having come, he finds it empty, swept, and beautified.

45 Then he goes, and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and having come in dwells there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So it will also be with this wicked generation.

46 And He yet speaking to the multitudes, behold, His mother and His brothers stood without, seeking to speak to Him.

47 And a certain one said to Him; Behold, thy mother and thy brothers stand without, seeking to speak to thee.

48 And He responding said to the one speaking to Him; Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?

49 And reaching forth His hand to His disciples, He said, Behold my mother and my brothers!

50 For whosoever may do the will of my Father who is in the heavens, the same is my brother, and my sister, and my mother.
