1 At the same time, there were some present, who gave Jesus an account of the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 upon which Jesus thus address'd himself to them, do you imagine that those Galileans were greater sinners than the rest of the nation, because they suffer'd in such a manner? 3 I tell you, no: and except you repent, you shall all likewise perish. 4 or those eighteen, upon whom the tower of Siloam fell, and slew them, do you think they were greater criminals than the other inhabitants of Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no: and except you repent, you shall all likewise perish. 6 He proposed likewise this parable: a certain man had a fig-tree planted in his vineyard, and he came expecting it should have had fruit, but he found none. 7 then he said to the vine-dresser, you see, I have been looking these three years for fruit from this fig-tree, but find none: hew it down, why should it cumber my ground? 8 to which he made answer, sir, let it alone one year longer, till I shall dig about it, and dung it. 9 perhaps it may bear fruit: if not, you may after that hew it down.
