1 After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Hebrew called Bethesda, having five porches. 3 In these were lying a multitude of those ailing, blind, lame, and withered. 5 And a certain man was there, being thirty and eight years in his ailment. 6 Jesus, having seen this one lying and having known that he has been a long time already, says to him, “Do you want to become well?” 7 The one ailing answered Him, “Sir, I do not have a man, that when the water might be stirred, he might put me into the pool; and while I am going, another goes down before me.” 8 Jesus says to him, “Arise, take up your mat, and walk.” 9 And immediately the man became well, and he took up his mat and was walking. And it was the Sabbath on that day. 10 Therefore the Jews were saying to the one having been healed, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to take up your mat.” 11 But he answered them, “The One having made me well, that One said to me, ‘Take up your mat and walk.’” 12 Therefore they asked him, “Who is the man having said to you, ‘Take it up and walk’?” 13 But the one having been healed did not know who it is, for Jesus moved away, a crowd being in the place.
