And it came to pass when all the people who were with Ishmael saw Johanan son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, that they were glad.

And all the people whom Ishmael had taken captive from Mizpah turned around, and they returned, and they went to Johanan son of Kareah.

And Ishmael son of Nethaniah, with eight men, escaped from Johanan and went to the sons of Ammon.

And Johanan son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces that were with him took all the rest of the people whom he had turned back from Ishmael son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after he had struck Gedaliah son of Ahikam—the mighty men of war, and the women, and the sons, and the eunuchs whom he had brought back from Gibeon.

And they went and dwelt in the lodging-place of Chimham, which is beside Bethlehem, to go to enter Egypt,

because of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of their face, because Ishmael son of Nethaniah had struck Gedaliah son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had appointed in the land.
