1 And YHWH said to Moses, “Depart, go up from this place, you and the people whom you have brought up from the land of Egypt, to the land that I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘To your seed I will give it.’ 2 And I will send before your face an angel, and I will drive out the Canaanite, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. 3 Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up among you, for you are a stiff-necked people, lest I consume you on the way.” 4 And the people heard this bad word, and they mourned; and no man put his ornaments on himself. 5 And YHWH had said to Moses, “Say to the sons of Israel, ‘You? are a stiff-necked people. In one moment I will come up among you and I will consume you. And now put down your ornaments from on you, and I will know what I shall do to you.’” 6 And the sons of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments from Mount Horeb.
