44 This is the law that Moses (drawn out) set before the Israelites (God prevails). 45 These are the testimonies, statutes, and ordinances that Moses (drawn out) proclaimed to them (he wrestles with God) after they had come out of Egypt (land of bondage), 46 while they were in the valley across the Jordan (flowing down) facing Beth-peor (house of Peor) in the land of Sihon (warrior) king of the Amorites (sayers), who lived in Heshbon (stronghold) and was defeated by Moses (drawn out) and the Israelites (God prevails) after they had come out of Egypt (land of bondage). 47 They took possession of the land belonging to Sihon and to Og (long-necked) king of Bashan (fruitful)—the two Amorite (a sayer) kings across the Jordan (flowing down) to the east— 48 extending from Aroer (ruins) on the rim of the Arnon (rushing stream) Valley as far as Mount Siyon (Sion) (that is, Hermon (a sanctuary)), 49 including all the Arabah on the east side of the Jordan (flowing down) and as far as the Sea of the Arabah (the Dead Sea), below the slopes of Pisgah (cleft).
