1 And it came to pass, when the king was dwelling in his house and YHWH had given rest to him all around from all his enemies, 2 that the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, and the ark of God dwells in the midst of the curtain.” 3 And Nathan said to the king, “All that is in your heart, go, do, for YHWH is with you.” 4 And it came to pass in that night that the word of YHWH came to Nathan, saying, 5 “Go and say unto My servant, to David, thus says YHWH: Would you build for Me a house to dwell in? 6 For I have not dwelt in a house since the time that I brought up the sons of Israel from Egypt and to this day, and I have been moving about in a tent and in a tabernacle. 7 In all that I have moved about with all the sons of Israel, have I spoken a word to one of the rods of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people Israel, saying, ‘Why have not you? built for Me a house of cedar?’ 8 And now thus shall you say to My servant David, thus says YHWH of Hosts: I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel. 9 And I have been with you in every place that you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth. 2 Samuel 7:1-9, Berean Literal Bible. Public domain.
