And Elijah the Tishbite from the Tishbites of Gilead said to Ahab, “As YHWH, God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be these years dew and rain, except if at my word.”

And the word of YHWH came to him, saying,

“Go from this place and turn for yourself eastward, and hide by the Brook of Cherith that is on the face of the Jordan.

And it will come to pass that you shall drink from the brook, and the ravens I have commanded to sustain you there.”

And he went and did according to the word of YHWH. And he went and stayed by the Brook of Cherith that is on the face of the Jordan.

And the ravens brought to him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening, and he drank from the brook.

And it came to pass at the end of some days that the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.

And the word of YHWH came to him, saying,

“Arise, go to Zarephath, which is unto Sidon, and dwell there. Behold, I have commanded there a widow woman to provide for you.”
