8 The sons of Becher (young camel): Zemirah (song), Joash (YHWH hastens), Eliezer (God is my helper), Elioenai (unto YHWH are my eyes), Omri (pupil of YHWH), Jeremoth (He is Most High), Abijah (YHWH is my father), Anathoth (answers to prayer), and Alemeth (covering); all these were Becher’s sons. 9 Their genealogies were recorded according to the heads of their families—20,200 mighty men of valor. 10 The son of Jediael (God makes known): Bilhan (their decrepitude). The sons of Bilhan: Jeush (He hurries to aid), Benjamin (son of the right hand), Ehud (I will give thanks), Chenaanah (trader), Zethan (olive), Tarshish (yellow jasper), and Ahishahar (brother of the dawn). 11 All these sons of Jediael (God makes known) were heads of their families, mighty men of valor; there were 17,200 fit for battle. 12 The Shuppites (serpents) and Huppites (protected) were descendants of Ir (belonging to a city), and the Hushites (who makes haste) were descendants of Aher (following). 13 The sons of Naphtali (wrestling): Jahziel (Jahzeel), Guni, Jezer (forming), and Shallum [Shillem] the descendants of Bilhah (troubled). 14 The descendants of Manasseh (causing to forget): Asriel (I shall be prince of God) through his Aramean (exalted) concubine. She also gave birth to Machir (sold) the father of Gilead (rocky region). 15 Machir (sold) took a wife from among the Huppites (protected) and Shuppites (serpents). The name of his sister was Maacah (oppression). Another descendant was named Zelophehad (first-born), who had only daughters. 16 Machir’s (sold) wife Maacah (oppression) gave birth to a son, and she named him Peresh (dung). His brother was named Sheresh (root), and his sons were Ulam (their leader) and Rekem (variegation). 17 The son of Ulam (their leader): Bedan (in judging). These were the sons of Gilead (rocky region) son of Machir (sold), the son of Manasseh (causing to forget). 18 His sister Hammolecheth (the queen) gave birth to Ishhod (man of majesty), Abiezer (my father is help), and Mahlah (disease). 19 And these were the sons of Shemida (wise): Ahian (brotherly), Shechem (shoulder), Likhi (learning), and Aniam (lament of people). 20 The descendants of Ephraim (doubly fruitful): Shuthelah (noise of breaking), Bered (hail) his son, Tahath (station) his son, Eleadah (God has adorned) his son, Tahath his son, 21 Zabad (he endows) his son, and Shuthelah (noise of breaking) his son. Ezer (treasure) and Elead (God has testified) were killed by the natives of Gath (winepress), because they went down to steal their livestock. 22 Their father Ephraim (doubly fruitful) mourned for many days, and his relatives came to comfort him. 23 And again he slept with his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to a son. So he named him Beriah (disaster), because tragedy had come upon his house. 24 His daughter was Sheerah (kinswoman), who built Lower and Upper Beth-horon (house of hollowness), as well as Uzzen-sheerah (portion of Sherah). 25 Additionally, Rephah (healing of the breath) was his son, Resheph his son, Telah (vigor) his son, Tahan (camp) his son, 26 Ladan (put in order) his son, Ammihud (my kinsman is majesty) his son, Elishama (my God has heard) his son, 27 Nun (Non) his son, and Joshua (YHWH saves) his son. 28 Their holdings and settlements included Bethel (house of God) and its villages, Naaran (juvenile) to the east, Gezer (portion) and its villages to the west, and Shechem (shoulder) and its villages as far as Ayyah (Ayyah) and its villages. 29 And along the borders of Manasseh (causing to forget) were Beth-shean (house of ease) (Beth-shan), Taanach (sandy), Megiddo (place of crowds), and Dor (generation), together with their villages. The descendants of Joseph (YHWH has added) son of Israel (he wrestles with God) lived in these towns. 30 The children of Asher (happy): Imnah (right hand), Ishvah (he will resemble), Ishvi (he resembles me), Beriah (with a friend), and their sister Serah (the prince breathed). 31 The sons of Beriah (with a friend): Heber (comrade), as well as Malchiel (my king is God), who was the father of Birzaith (in leanness). 32 Heber (comrade) was the father of Japhlet (he will deliver), Shomer (keeper), and Hotham (seal), and of their sister Shua (wealth). 33 The sons of Japhlet (he will deliver): Pasach (cut off), Bimhal (in circumcision), and Ashvath (sleek). These were Japhlet’s sons. 34 The sons of Shemer (preserved): Ahi (my brother), Rohgah (The sons of his brother Shemer: Rohgah), Hubbah (hidden), and Aram (exalted). 35 The sons of his brother Helem (Hotham): Zophah (a cruse), Imna (He will restrain), Shelesh (might), and Amal (labour). 36 The sons of Zophah (a cruse): Suah (sweeping), Harnepher (panting), Shual (jackal), Beri (a well), Imrah (bitterness), 37 Bezer (gold ore), Hod (splendor), Shamma (desert), Shilshah (strong), Ithran (Jether), and Beera (a well). 38 The sons of Jether (abundance): Jephunneh (He will be facing), Pispa (disappearance), and Ara (lion). 39 The sons of Ulla (yoke): Arah (traveller), Hanniel (favored of God), and Rizia (delight). 40 All these were the descendants of Asher (happy)—heads of their families, choice and mighty men of valor, and chiefs among the leaders.
